The Malaysia Wrestling Federation is thrilled to announce the participation of its senior athletes in the prestigious 2024 Southeast Asian Championship & Oceania Invitational, held in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This event, which attracted top wrestlers from across Southeast Asia and Oceania, offered a prime opportunity for our national athletes to showcase their abilities on the international stage. The championship brought together elite wrestlers from 12 countries, fostering intense competition in various weight categories.
Malaysia was represented by four senior wrestlers in the Freestyle Wrestling (FS) category, each bringing dedication and pride to their bouts. Here are the details of the athletes who represented Malaysia:
Seniors - Freestyle (FS):
61 kg – Irfan Iskandar: A rising star in Malaysia's wrestling scene, Irfan made his debut in this international competition, gaining invaluable experience competing against seasoned wrestlers.
65 kg – Muhammad Danial Iqbal Bin Md Amin: A veteran on the team, Danial Iqbal brought his years of experience to the mat, showcasing his skills in a highly competitive category.
74 kg – Nuriman Bin Hashim Efendiev: A dynamic and powerful wrestler, Nuriman showed great resilience, taking on strong opponents from across the region. His presence in the 74 kg category was a testament to his growing stature in the sport.
79 kg – Sivaraja Benjamin Raj Mark: As one of the senior-most athletes in the squad, Sivaraja competed fiercely in the 79 kg category. His experience and tactical prowess were on full display as he battled through each round.
A Summary of Their Performance
The competition was tough, and our athletes faced seasoned opponents from countries like Vietnam, Thailand, New Zealand, and Australia. Though the competition was fierce, our wrestlers showcased their strength, perseverance, and sportsmanship in every match.
In the 61 kg category, Irfan Iskandar faced strong opposition but performed admirably, gaining experience that will undoubtedly serve him well in future competitions. Muhammad Danial Iqbal, competing in the 65 kg category, brought his tactical skills to the forefront in a challenging field. Nuriman Efendiev, in the 74 kg weight class, delivered a strong showing, while Sivaraja Benjamin Raj, in the 79 kg division, gave a solid performance against some of the region’s best wrestlers.

While our athletes did not secure podium finishes in this event, their performances have earned them recognition and respect on the international wrestling scene.
